Hello everyone! I’m here to give you one question today. Cranial nerve is one of most confusing topics that you should study before taking NPTE.

Which of the following related cranial nerve is this picture describe?
- CN 3
- CN 4
- CN 5
- CN 7
The first question is just ask a simple knowledge whether you knew the concepts of cranial nerve or not. I understand that somebody may not familiar jaw reflex with cranial nerve. However, I could be a important topic that you must know before taking test.
I recommends you to study more deep about CN5 (Trigeminal nerve). It because that this nerve is a most complex nerve contains with both sensory and motor nerve.

Sensation : Face
V1 – Ophthalmic nerve – Sensory – Scalp and Forehead, the upper eyelid, the conjunctiva and cornea of the eye, the nose (tip of the nose, except alae nasi), the nasal mucosa, the frontal sinuses and parts of the meninges
V2 – Maxillary nerve – Sensory – lower eyelid and cheek, the nares and upper lip, the upper teeth and gums, the nasal mucosa, the palate and roof of the pharaynx, the maxillary, ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses and parts of the meninges.
V3- Mandibular nerve – sensory – lower lip, the lower teeth and gums, the chin and jaw (excpet the angle of the jaw – C2,C3), parts of the external ear and parts of the meninges. Touch-position and pain-pemperature sensations from the mouth. It does not carry taste sensation.
Motor : Biting and Chewing
I honestly says that you don’t actually need to know all of it to make right answers. It seems to deep if you want to know everything. But of course if you can understand and memorize everything? It’s great and excellent! However, If it is not, I recommends you to memorize the points of this topic. First, Name of sensory nerve like V1,V2,V3 each nerves and imagine the branches. Some questions might related with more specific. Seconds, you should divided into CN3,5,6, and 7. Mostly, questions are related with different diagnosis.
Answer is 3. Jaw reflex (manbibular reflex)
